As a municipal company, the Ruhrbahn GmbH (Ruhrbahn) has a special responsibility for fairness, honesty and transparency. As a performer of numerous public services, we are obligated to act in the best interest of the citizens of the city of Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr. We want to persuade through achievement and quality. Our commercial behaviour is therefore characterised by a sense of responsibility and high moral and ethical principles.
Having responsibility however also means that each individual assumes responsibility for his actions. This includes every employee adhering to applicable laws and regulations at all times and helping others to do so. Otherwise there is the threat of serious harm to our economic success and confidence in our integrity.
For this reason, we are always open to and grateful for sincere evidence of malpractice and risks. We appreciate it if such evidence is expressed directly to management, superiors, the personnel department or the compliance officer because this is an expression of an open corporate structure. In order to give those who dread public speaking - for whatever reason - the chance to share their evidence, we have established this whistleblowing portal. The BKMS® System (Business Keeper Monitoring System) is an internet based application which enables employees, customers and third parties, in person or under the protection of anonymity, to report criminal business activity and company damaging behaviour out of ethical responsibility or because of a moral conflict, twenty-four-seven.
We encourage the users of this system to provide their names and ensure the highest possible confidentiality in the handling of the information. If somebody provides an anonymous report however, we explicitly ask to set up a postbox (see explanation on the left) so that questions for the purpose of clarification are possible. Anonymity is not impaired this way.
The whistleblowing portal serves the detection and avoidance of considerable risks. For this reason, only reports which concern serious compliance violations, especially economic crimes and violations against competition law, data protection and environmental legislation, are processed.
Suspicions regarding another person can have serious consequences. Whistleblowers are therefore requested to act with the highest sense of responsibility when using this system. It should serve those who submit a report and are convinced that their portrayal corresponds to the truth regardless of the outcome of later investigations. Who misused the system has to bear all the consequences of his actions.
